The very first time I read the title “Sword & Sworcery”, I started twitching. My maiden name is Sword, and you might find it surprising how many ways people can butcher such a utilitarian word. The most common was, “S-whirr-ed”, but was occasionally accompanied with, “S-whor-ed”, and let’s not forget “S-whar-ed”. Getting past the urge to punch someone in the face, I thought it was a cute play on s-words.

Sword & Sworcery is the lovechild of Superbrothers and Jim Guthrie, mixed in with some artsy nostalgia. As a point-and-click adventure game, it assures us old timers retro isn’t dead. With this game, and Double Fine’s newest unnamed addition to the adventure game genre, we can be rest assured knowing our delicate psyches will thrive.

I got to spend my Saturday night nerding it up with some good friends. My husband and I host monthly tabletop gaming nights. We’re definitely into the pen-and-paper RPG’s, and board games. The problem with board games, though, is they don’t allow for a whole lot of role-play, and let’s face it, that’s where this group of friends shines.

Game of the Month: Darksiders

I’d like to kick things off with something I want to make ongoing: my pick for a game of the month. Because I do not have access to a plethora of funds nor a heavy repertoire of games at the moment, I’m going to spotlight games I think you should play. They might be games that have been out for a while, or games you’ve likely already played. The bottom line reamins, however: I like them.

The first on my list is Darksiders, the action-adventure game from up and coming Vigil Games. For a young company, they already have an impressive résumé. Owned by THQ, formed by Joe Madureira and David Adams, it can only mean one thing for the future: awesome.

For the present, their break-out game Darksiders has captured the attention of gamers. Set in a literal post-Apocalyptic world, you are War – the first Horseman of the Apocalypse. Blamed for the untimely destruction of the world, and stripped of his rank, War sets out on a quest for vengeance. Which appropriately means, you will kill some bitches.
